Who We Are
Central Mississippi, Inc. (CMI) was established in 1965 as a 501©3 non-profit organization that provides assistance to low-income families and individuals in meeting their basic living needs. CMI operates in a seven-county area, which includes Attala, Carroll, Grenada, Holmes, Leflore, Montgomery, and Yalobusha, and maintains its central office in Winona, Mississippi. We are a nonprofit organization that seeks to help out the community in various ways possible.
Purpose and Mission
Central Mississippi Incorporated was charted in 1965 for the following purposes:
- To administer programs of the Department of Health and Human Services, Region IV, Atlanta, the Mississippi Department of Human Services, the Mississippi Council of Aging, and other appropriate agencies in the counties of Attala, Carroll, Grenada, Holmes, Leflore, Montgomery, and Yalobusha. Choctaw and Webster Counties are a part of CMI as it relates to the Head Start Program;
- Work with the poor, and public sectors to seek out, identify, and eliminate the causes of poverty;
- Make the community more responsive to the needs and interests of the poor by mobilizing available resources and bringing about greater institutional sensitivity;
- Plan and develop a system of priorities among projects, activities, and identified needs;
- Serve the public interest in charitable relief of the poor, distressed, or underprivileged; promote social welfare by programs designed to lessen neighborhood tension, eliminate prejudice and discrimination; defend human and civil rights served by law, and combat community deterioration and juvenile delinquency.
Central Mississippi Incorporated is a private non-profit organization created to provide effective leadership to help people SEE (Social, Education, Economic) a path to improve and sustain their quality of life.
